HERE IS PROJECT NO. 2
This really easy pattern has been taken from The Knitting & Crochet Bible by Claire Crompton. If you are new to knitting I highly recommend this book as it includes all the basic knitting instructions from casting on to binding off
STRIPED BAG PATTERN:

The back and front of this simple yet eye-catching bag are knitted in one piece in stockinette stitch It is then sewn up and the handles and lining attached.
Bag measures 63⁄4in (17cm) wide by 7in (18cm) long, excluding handles
MATERIALS
Mercerized sport weight (4ply) cotton yarn – 125yd/115m per ball
1 x 13⁄4oz (50g) each in colour:
A wine
B pale pink
C rose pink
D white
E leaf green
15in (37cm) x 8in (19.5cm) calico or closely woven cotton fabric for lining
Sewing thread to match lining
NEEDLES
Size 3 (3.25mm/UK10) needles
Gauge (Tension)
23 sts and 32 rows to 4in (10cm) measured over st st on size 3 (3.25mm/UK10) needles
BACK AND FRONT
Using size 3 (3.25mm/UK10) needles and A, cast on 80 sts.
Working in st st, work in stripe patt of
* 6 rows A, 2 rows B, 4 rows C, 2 rows B,
2 rows D, 2 rows A, 2 rows C, 4 rows E,
6 rows B *, 2 rows D, 2 rows C, 2 rows E.
Work another 30 rows in stripe patt
from * to *.
Using B, bind (cast) off.
HANDLES (MAKE 2 ALIKE)
Using size 3 (3.25mm/UK10) needles and A, cast on 60 sts.
Working in st st, work in stripe patt of
2 rows A, 2 rows C, 2 rows E, 6 rows B.
Using B, bind (cast) off.
FINISHING
Block the piece to measurements.
Fold front and back in half with RS together and sew side and bottom seams. Fold the 6 rows of B to the inside to form a facing and sew into place. Fold handles along their length and slipstitch cast on edge to bound (cast) off edge. Place markers for handles 11⁄2in (4cm) from the sides along the top edge. Sew handles to bag, through facing only.
LINING
Neaten the edges of the fabric. Fold in half and sew side seams, using a seam allowance of 5⁄8in (1.5cm). Fold over the seam allowance along top edge and press. Push lining into bag with wrong sides together and sew along the facing.
