Jazz up your boiled eggs this Easter with this funky egg cosy.
It is really easy to make and all you need is a small amount of fabric and thread.
This project has been taken from one of my favourite books by David & Charles called
Free & Easy Stitch Style by the very talented
Poppy Treffry. The book features a great range of projects including a tea cosy to match your egg cosy, aprons, bags, notebook covers and more, as well as providing all the instructions you need to create each project with really easy to follow photos and step-by-step instructions. If you are new to sewing or have just bought a sewing machine and would like to learn some new techniques this book is definitely one for you.
You Will Need:
10 x 25cm (4 x 10in) of background fabric
10 x 25cm (4 x 10in) of lining fabric
Scraps of fabric to make a fabric loop
Threads in various colours
One. Make a paper pattern template of an egg cosy and use it to cut out two pieces of both background and lining fabrics. Makie a fabric loop to complement the other fabrics.
Two. Cut out the fabric pieces for your applique heart design. first outline the basic shapes onto one piece of the background fabric, using a small embroidery hoop. When the applique is finished, cut any thread ends and press the fabric.
Three. Place one piece of background fabric right sides facing one pieces of lining and stitch along the bottom edge. Repeat with the other two pieces.
Four. Open out the two pieces and press the seams open. Place lining and background pieces right sides facing. Sew all around the edges, inserting the fabric loop at the top of the background fabric. Leave an opening in the lining fabric long enough to turn the fabrics through.
Five. Turn the cosy right sides out and sew along the opening in the lining to close. Press the seams. Tuck the lining into the outer cosy and your egg will be just that - nice and cosy!
