Christmas Cards - When Do You Start?

It seems to be that as soon as the 1st of September comes around shops start stocking Christmas cards and restaurants start advertising their Chrismtmas menus, I have even see a Christmas tree in one shop  Anyway, it has made me think about when to start making my Christmas cards and perhaps i should start buying supplies

So, when do you start making yours?  Do you make cards for a lot of people or just for family and close friends?
