Pull Outs
Techniques courtesy of The Papercrafter's Bible
The movement of pull-outs is dependent on somebody pulling! Pull-outs add an element of surprise and fun. Many card makers overlook this simple technique, but it should be in everyone’s papercraft repertoire.
Pull Outs
1.Using a craft knife and ruler, cut two vertical parallel lines of equal length 2mm (3/32in) apart in a piece of card. Remove the strip by cutting horizontally between the lines. This creates a slot for the pull-tab. If only one cut is made, the hole will not be wide enough for the pull-tab to pass through.
2.Cut another piece of card into a ‘T’ shape. This is called the pull-tab. The width of this pull-tab needs to be 4mm (1/8in) shorter than the slot and the top of the ‘T’ shape needs to be 2cm (3/4in) wider than the slot. This cross piece stops the pull-tab from being pulled all the way out of the slot. Turn the card right-side down and insert the pull-tab into the slot.
3. Glue a strip of paper either side of the pull-tab 3cm (11/8in) from the slot. This strip holds the pull-tab in place as it is pulled in and out. Turn the card over and add a picture or message of your choice to the pull-out.
